Youth centres in Sweden

Main objectives of youth centres in Sweden:
Promote physical and mental well-being, focusing mainly on sexual and reproductive health and the rights of youth and young adults. The target group is youth and young adults who are between 12 and 25 years old. (SKUM 22yrs) Achieved through a comprehensive medical, psychological, and psychosocial perspective. Norm-critical attitude – ie sexual identity, gender, culture, religion, etnicity

More specifically, youth centres
Contraception counselling Prevent STIs Treat and follow-up of STIs Prevent unwanted pregnancies Provide counselling regarding sexual problems/dysfunctions Provide advice in unplanned pregnancies (or referral to abortion clinic if the woman so wishes) Assess mental health and social situation Address and support treatment/referral for other health problems

First in Stockholm (1970), second in the country Originally a complement to the school health system in Stockholm Financed by the City of Stockholm/Stockholm County Council All visits free of charge Open (walk-in) clinic 5 days/week Pre-booked appointments 6 days/week Open phone line (on hours) 4 days/week Social media podcast, instagram, facebook

SKUM 9 500 individual visits per year Group sessions:
Stress Group, ACT-group, CBT group, contraceptive information Teamwork: menstrual disorders, sexual pain, notification of concern Visits by school classes Immigrants, unaccompanied refugees, youth with neuropsychiatric diagnoses Outreach (schools, festivals)
