2 Objective At the end of this lesson, students will be able to compare and contrast the geographic/economic characteristics of the New England, Middle, Chesapeake, and Southern Colonies

3 Warm-Up What factors impacted the political, social, and economic development of the colonial regions(the New England colonies, the middle colonies, and the Southern colonies( including the Chesapeake colonies)?

4 Guided Practice Students will receive one resource map of a North American colonial region and begin to create a list of the characteristics of that particular region in their notes.

5 Guided Practice Colonial geography activity Address the following: Region:______________ 1. General location of towns: 2. Climate: 3. Geography: 4. Length of growing season: short, moderate, long? 5. Major Crops: 6. Major Occupations: 7. Natural Resources: 8. Major Industries:

6 Cooperative Activity Count off by 8 Each group member will complete the handout by answering all questions. Be sure to include the group member names so I can compare answers if necessary. Be sure to identify you region letter (A, B, or C) at the top your paper and include your name as well.

7 Closing Identify Regions A, B, C Which region would have been most geographically and economically similar to England and most likely to have competed with her? Which region would have been favored by England because of the resources it could provide? Compare and contrast the economic and geographical features of the different regions of England’s North American colonies

8 Homework-APUSH Continue to research which European nation had the greatest impact on the Native American societies in areas that it colonized between the late 15th century and 1754 Assign the “Serving Time in Virginia article”.
