3. Legal Advisory Functions
This Department advises Government Ministries, Departments, Constitutional Commissions and State Corporations on all legal matters. Its functions include:
The interpretation of Constitution, statutes and subsidiary legislation for and on behalf of the Government Ministries and agencies
Research for Government Ministries and agencies on any legal issues encountered that they may require advise on;

4. Legal Advisory Functions Cont’d
Participation in special Commissions appointed by the Government
Participation in Task Forces formed to address various issues
Participation as resource persons in the sensitization and advocacy on various issues
Coordinate the Attorney General’s representation in Boards of State Corporations

5. Importance of Compliance
There is a need to pay attention to the point in the progression of these stages that the Attorney General must be involved
The Attorney General does not accept post-signature requests for legal approval of such arrangements
There are consequences for not following the procedures indicated herein. In case of loan agreements, the Government may be exposed to financial loss or other risks that are unfavourable to the country’s interests
Where a Ministry or government department enters into an agreement of whatever nature without involving the Attorney General, the accounting officer shall be liable

6. Correspondence
All correspondence with the Attorney General’s Office must be addressed to either the Attorney General or the Solicitor General. This is intended to at all times keep the Attorney General and the Solicitor General informed of all matters addressed to the Office of the Attorney General, the nature and number of legal advisory services emanating from the Office of the Attorney General, as well as assuring uniformity of legal opinions.
