Aim: How do air masses differ?
2
Welcome two air masses that came to visit us from far away places!
3
How do we define air mass?
Air Mass – A large volume/parcel of air that has characteristics based on temperature and moisture (humidity) Source Region – area on earths surface which an air mass originates (forms). - determines the temperature & moisture of the air mass.
4
How do we determine the characteristics of an air mass?
Name Origin (Source Region) where it formed Symbol Temperature or Humidity Characteristic of air mass Continental Over Land c Humidity (moisture) Dry – more dense (heavy) Maritime Over Water m Humidity Moist (Wet) –Less dense Tropical Low Latitudes (Equator) T Temperature Warm – Less Dense Polar High Latitudes (Poles) P Cool – More Dense Arctic Very High Latitudes (Arctic) A Very Cold – Very Dense
