For each chapter: Summarize the introductory information; this is usually on the first pate of each chapter. Keep a list of all vocab words that are unfamiliar.

For each picture: Draw the picture Write one contextual fact
Write one content fact Write one formal fact

Context (big ideas about the era)
What was happening in the world at that place and time, that might have influenced the artist and artwork… Religion? Society? Patrons? Economics? Inventions?

Content (the iconography of that particular work)
What is the message of the work? What is the artist trying to say? What is it all about? Is there any symbolism? Is there a narrative (story)?

Formalism (the Formal Elements)
What media? What technique? Describe the Art Elements & Principles (Line, Shape, Color, Form, Value, Space, Unity, Contrast, Balance, Rythym, Proportion and Emphasis)

Drawing the Images: What is important that you can remember which picture is which when you go back and reread your notes. Be quick! Spend about 60 seconds on each images. Stick figures are o.k. Use circles for heads, lollipops for trees, etc. Label colors or details if you need Look quickly for details that are unique toe each picture; you should draw those in particular.
