Very little rainfall Main sources for water are the Canadian and Pecos rivers Dams provide water Farming and ranching are still the main economic activities in this province Very dry climate

5 Plant and animal life Plants: No trees except shin oak and mesquite, creosote bush, and prickly pear cactus Animals: free-tailed bats, coyotes, diamondback rattle snakes, kangaroo rats, roadrunners, and vampire bats

6 Settlement patterns Least populated area of four provinces
Was settles by mostly white Protestants Farming is difficult so many people move to big cities in the area such as Roswell, Hobbs, Carlsbad, and Clovis
