Predict your future as you plan for it to be in 15 years. Name – if you wanted to change your name, what name would you adopt? Employment – what is your dream job? How long have you been in this field? Family – are you married? To whom? Children? Leisure time – what do you do for entertainment? Place in society – what do you do to improve the world? Setting – describe where you live Satisfaction – are you happy? Why/why not? Who is responsible for your feelings? 28 American Dream Project
Fold a piece of paper in half. On the top half you will create a list of YOUR “general resolves” as Gatsby did in his copy of Hopalong Cassidy.  On the bottom half answer the following questions: Are your resolves realistic and attainable? Are they consistent with what American culture expects of an educated young person? On the back write ( in a lengthy paragraph or two) about your vision of the "American dream." If your American Dream is fulfilled, what will you be doing when you are Nick’s age (thirty)?. ___________________________________________ On a blank piece of copy paper (or any other creative way) create portraits of yourself as an adult who has realized the American dream. Include specifics (clothes, shoes, hair style, jewelry, house if you would like.) You can make this modern day, OR set in the 20’s. GATSBY’S GENERAL RESOLVES (p. 173) No wasting time at Shafters or [a name. indecipherable] No more smoking or chewing. Bath every other day. Read one improving book or magazine per week. Save $3.00 per week. Be better to parents.
