3 External or Internal Conflict?
Roger tries to steal Mrs. Jones’s purse. Mrs. Jones must decide what to do with Roger. Roger needs to decide whether to run from the woman, or stay and listen to her. Roger needs to decide whether or not to continue stealing.

4 Cause and Effect A cause is an event that occurs first and brings about a second event called an effect. These events help to advance the plot.

The strap on Mrs. Jones’s purse breaks when Roger tries to steal it. ??? Roger loses his balance and falls down. Roger apologizes to Mrs. Jones hoping she will free him.
