What might cause a character to have an internal conflict? How does this type of conflict drive the plot? How can an author communicate this type of conflict?

Assignment Select a character.
Analyze the internal/external perception of your character. Pay attention to the conflicting perceptions. Create a visual to represent their external/internal appearance. This can be paper/pencil or digital. See examples on the next slide.

Reflection Use the ideas on the outside and inside to draft a reflective essay explaining how others might describe your character (external), how your character would describe themselves (internal), and how these descriptions might be similar or different.

Essay Format Introduction:
What you see is not always what you get. People may look at me and think I am _________ , but I am actually ___________. or What you see is really who I am. People look at me and think I am __________, and they are exactly right. Body: Write 2 body paragraphs, one about how others might describe your character and one about how your character would describe themself. Conclusion: For a conclusion, write one paragraph comparing the similarities or differences between the two descriptions.
