Aim: How do we find a central idea of a literary passge?
Part 3 Text-Analysis Response Your Task: Closely read the text provided on pages 21 and 22 and write a well-developed, text-based response of two to three paragraphs. In your response, identify a central idea in the text and analyze how the author’s use of one writing strategy (literary element or literary technique or rhetorical device) develops this central idea. Use strong and thorough evidence from the text to support your analysis. Do not simply summarize the text.

Why does the author tell us this story? What does he want to tell us in this story? How is the central idea or theme expressed through the characters, setting, point of view, tone, language, or conflict? In what way does the resolution of the external conflict indicate the central idea or theme? How does the resolution of the internal conflict express the story's theme? Are symbols, metaphors, or similes used to portray the central idea or theme?
