5 CARE-Research Grant Guidelines
CARE-Research Grants will fund: Projects that might lead to additional external funding. Scholarly creative or research endeavors that can lead to juried publication, exhibits, performances, or grant proposals Scholarly creative or research endeavors that contribute strongly to the university’s scholarship mission, which require more support than available from department or college resources. Collaborative projects with good justification – budget may be beyond the $5,000 limit All projects will have a full 12 months to accomplish the work (Dec. 1, Nov , but could be variable depending on the project needs) Funds CANNOT be used for PI salary Funds CANNOT be used to attend professional meetings CARE-Research Grant Guidelines

6 CARE-Research Grant Guidelines cont.
Other Requirements If the project involves human or animal subjects IRB approval must be obtained before the award is given. Recipients must submit a written report upon project completion CARE-Research Grant Guidelines cont.

7 Applicant uses overly technical jargon. Unclear purpose and/or methods
Budget is not aligned to project narrative. Budget is not on separate page, required budget template not used Budget or timeframe are unrealistic Research inappropriate to MSUB mission Methodology unclear “Who, what, when, where, why, how” not clearly described Project is seen as having only local significance; unclear how project will contribute to broader scope of scholarship. Common errors

8 Proposal requirements
Five page maximum, including budget but not including cover page; 12 point font, 1 inch margins Address the sections in the order they are given Avoid technical jargon Description of Project Goals and Objectives What will you do and why are you doing it. Brief summary of project. What is the need for this project? Is there current research that supports the need for your proposed project? Why is this project important to your field or to your own scholarship? Is your project unique/innovative What do you hope to achieve through this research (what are your specific goals and objectives) Proposal requirements

9 Requirements cont. Plan of Operation
When will your project begin and end? Who will do what, and when? Thoroughly and clearly describe the tasks that will be completed by both the PI (you) and any personnel that will be working on the project. If there are personnel listed in the budget, then you must describe their role in the project. Clearly describe the role of any partners/collaborators Provide a timeline of tasks Requirements cont.

10 Requirements cont. Dissemination Plan
How will you disseminate the results of your project? Be Specific: To what refereed journal might you submit an article? At what venue might you perform, or at what conference will you present your findings? Where might your work be exhibited? What external federal, state, or private grant funding might this project lead to? Again, be specific about a potential grant opportunity: name of the grant competition and agency/funder. Reach as broad an audience as possible (i.e., look beyond local venues) Requirements cont.

11 REQUIREments cont. Budget
Your budget should match your narrative: make it clear in your narrative how the items requested in your budget are necessary for project completion Personnel = anyone paid directly through MSUB payroll, including interns, work study, and assistants.
