1
The application of structure from motion to identify the geological structures and outcrop studies
Aditya Saputra, Trias Rahardianto, Christopher Gomez Dept. of Geography, University of Canterbury, New Zealand
2
Introduction The outcrop studies have played an important role for geological analysis in various of purposes Regional geologist conducts the outcrop study to study the outcrop pattern and seismic characteristics. The recent development of technology and computer allows them to produce 3D visual of outcrops However, the usage of Light Detection and Ranging Survey (LiDAR), Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS), Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) surveying are very expensive.
3
Photogrammetry for outcrop studies
Able to capture the large amount of the outcrops information Effective for wide areas Suitable for dangerous and remote site study But, it has coarse spatial resolution and not suitable for particular outcrop, for example cliff or near vertical outcrop
4
Structure from Motion (SfM)
Derived from the photogrammetry technique Relatively new for geoscience implementation Effective for small to moderate outcrops Provides high resolution of a 3D outcrop model Low cost-alternative method to visualize the outcrop Objective Identify the fault evidence and capture the outcrop characteristic using SfM technique To find out the SfM accuracy

Conclusion Acknowledgement
The implement of SfM is highly recommended on the poor data area SfM can Clearly identified the fault and provides high accuracy of 3D surface model of the outcrop (30 fault evidences with RMS only 0.25 cm) Acknowledgement The authors thankful to main supervisor, Dr. Christopher Gomez, who has supported this project, also Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko and Prof. Dr. Junun Sartohadi as well. we also acknowledge The Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education for financial support, as well as the University of Canterbury New Zealand who provided adequate reference for this project.
