Extending the reach of the Project profession Project Challenge Expo John McGlynn APM Chair

2 Today APM’s new strategy – Inspiring Change
APM Challenges and priorities Focus on millennials and next generation of Project Professionals Close Brief explanation of what I’ll be covering today

3 Our vision remains ambitious, challenging and radical; we recognise that to deliver it we need to inspire everyone to understand the contribution they can make to project success. Our profession faces many challenges, there are still too many projects which fail, successful practice is too frequently ignored and failure often lies beyond the boundaries of traditional project management. The new vision is a response to these challenges – to reach out to different communities and generations and establish project management as a life skill for all. We are changing to meet the challenges required for a modern professional body in a complex and dynamic world. Change is the new normal and consider this – in the future change will never be as slow as it is today - APM believes this rapidly changing environment calls for a more adaptive project management approach which is more inclusive and responsive to the needs of society. One which builds a community of credible, capable and trusted professionals delivering effective change in all sectors to all stakeholders. APM’s vision is a response to the many challenges our profession faces – to reach out to different communities and generations and establish project management as a core skill.

4 Our mission is to inspire communities to deliver meaningful change that inspiration needs to come from me, the board, the exec, and everyone involved with delivering projects Our purpose is to inspire all those communities who are engaged in delivering meaningful change to apply the art, science, theory and practice of project management. Equally, APM is committed to advancing our collective knowledge in the art, science, theory and practice of project management and in doing so contribute directly to achieving our vision. This new mission represents a significant shift towards a more outward and inclusive focus for APM, aligning with our charitable objectives and our belief in a more adaptive and diverse profession aligned to delivering societal benefit.
