1 Welcome To Curriculum Night
Please sign up for volunteering or conferences (even during the presentation). That information can be found at the back table! Please keep your child’s owl and the information packet on your child’s desk!

3 Curriculum In A Nutshell
This document describes the objectives that students should master by the end of  Gr. 1. These areas will be discussed during conferences in November and March. Conference Sign Ups are available at the back table (pass around?)

4 Common Core State Standards
We will be teaching using the Common Core State Standards as our objectives. The Common Core State Standards focus on College and Career Readiness.

5 Common Core State Standards
Each standard utilizes skills from previous grades and builds upon them to meet the College and Career Readiness Standards. Count by 5’s Tell time to the nearest 5 minutes Tell time by hour and ½ hour Count & recognize numbers

7 Math Using Common Core Standards Digging Deeper into WHY WHY WHY?
Play, play, play!     Playing and exploring is important!

Think about when you read the newspaper. Yes, you are reading...but are you comprehending EVERYTHING that you are reading?

Writing Conferences allow me to work on each student’s writing development. Conferences allow for reflection of glows and grows!

14 Science/Social Studies
Our Curriculum -Famous People, Maps and Globes, Fire Safety, Thanksgiving, Pushes and Pulls, Kenya (studying animals), Insects, and so much more!

15 Homework Homework begins in October.
Goes home Monday, Comes back Friday Homework will be reading the dot books each night! Don’t stress! Reading is meant to be fun. You know your child best and you don’t need to be the #1 Reading Teacher to read with your child. Remember - Homework is practice!  It should not be difficult! 17 Sharing! No specific schedule! Kids can Sign up anytime!
STUDENTS NEED: 1. Your share (you can a picture too!) *keep your share in your backpack until we get to you! 2. Share paper (explaining what the item is and why it is important) How can I help my child prepare for a share in school? (We have speaking and listening objectives!)

…to volunteer (of course!) I enjoy having parents/relatives come in to visit the classroom. The more the merrier! Guest readers always welcome!!! We also allow parents to come visit at lunch (please sit at our visitor table).

24 Differentiation This is an example of differentiation.  I am teaching the same skill, but in different ways!

25 What Can I Do To Help My Child
1:1 time to tie their shoes – (untied laces, distractions) Thank you!!  WHY WHY WHY? Ask your child to explain their thinking (especially in math). How did you figure that out? We are all GROWING! Share your thinking with your child out loud so they know you are a reflective thinker too Muscle Memory (backwards letters)
