Leadership Nuggets Fon R. Holloway
Good Morning All, as stated in the introduction I am Fon and I want to say right up front that I am a work in progress. What you received from me today will not be absolute and all cases and I am no expert on the topic of leadership. What I can tell you is a believe that I am growing each and every day as a leader and the things that I am going to talk about are things that I subscribed to and believe are true. My only goal to today is to get each of you to either learn something new OR more likely hear something that you have heard before in a different kind of way and commit to either putting it in use or teaching or sharing the concept with someone us that you influence. Is that fair enough. Lastly, while I am the designated speaker for this time period it is not my intention to speak for the whole time but to spark some conversation among all of you so that some of the expertise in the group is shared

One of the things that I didn't mention in my bio is that 20 years ago I was introduced to a book called the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership written by John Maxwell. That was my introduction to John Maxwell, who is known around the world as one of the #1 experts in the area of leadership. I have been reading his material, books, and receiving a daily message from him every since then. He has been my mentor for all of those years and I just got to meet him in August when I completed his certification program. Most of what I share today are snippets from 2 titles I am showing on this slide.

Ground breakers Heart breakers Cloud breakers Chart breakers Ground breakers take you into an area you haven’t been before Heart breakers are when you realize things are going very well Cloud breakers let you soar like you’ve never soared before Chart breakers take you beyond your expectations Experience is no teacher unless you learn from it. Focus not on what happens to you but on what happens in you during the process of the experience. At every defining moment, ask yourself one question: What did you learn?

When You Get Kicked in the Rear, You Know You’re Out in Front
How to hold up against Criticism…
23
WHO ARE YOU Know YOURSELF Step One: who
Know Yourself – this is a reality issue. Know what you do well and what you don’t do well. Be prepared to be criticized – you cannot impart what you do not possess. Know YOURSELF
24
Change YOURSELF Step Two:
Change Yourself – this is a responsibility issue. Leaders change first. Maintain the right attitude when criticized by not being defensive, looking for the grain of truth, making the necessary changes and taking the high road. Change YOURSELF

Forget YOURSELF Step Three:
Forget Yourself – this is a security issue. Stop focusing on yourself. No one else is paying much attention to you. We all need grace and forgiveness Forget YOURSELF
