1 Writing an Argumentative Essay
What is important to you? What would you like to see changed in the world? What bothers you when someone does it? What makes you want to try harder? What is the biggest problem you can think of that needs to be fixed? What is one thing you think Is right but others don’t agree?

2 How to start my paper Brainstorm words, ideas, sounds, smells, feelings, things that make you feel excited, disgusted, angry, emotional Create a graphic organizer: This could be a bubble map Outline timeline

3 Sample Ideas: Should medical care be free?
Schools should only be open 5 hours a day People think we should not have any recesses Should homework be required? Should kids be paid to go to school? Should all people have to serve in the military for two years before college? Should all kids have to get a job at 16? Should people be allowed to cut down trees? Should people have to go to school?

4 What is a Thinking Map? A thinking map can be a bubble map.
It is used to connect ideas to the topic. It helps separate our ideas into groups that are related. Each bubble should be ideas about a different Idea about your chosen argument

5 How do You Decide on the Sub-Topics?
1st you brainstorm everything you know about the topic Then you look for areas that share something in common (reasons, examples, etc. From there your categories are formed Now you can write about each category in a separate paragraph

6 How do you support your writing?
Use facts Use examples Use descriptive words Use definitions Make comparisons

7 How do I start My Writing?
Develop a thesis – What is your paper about? What do you want people to know? Ask a thoughtful question, State a fact, start with an expression (Wow! Did you know…?) Make your introductory statement something people will want to read. Hook your readers and reel them in!

8 How to End Your Writing Summarize your main idea (Thesis) in a good sentence or two. Recall examples that clarify your thoughts Ask and answer a question, state a fact, but make sure you leave the reader feeling satisfied with a sense of completeness.
