A. Read syllabus and get signed(5 pts) B. Name tag/narrative/ assignment. C. Student letter to teacher. D.. Photos today in all English classes. 10:59,11:45, 12:26 Objective: Students get truncated orientation and travel to get his/her class photo taken. DO: 1. Read Syllabus tonight-get signed. 2. Figure out how you will print a 4x6 selfie. 3. Find 4 personal and specific “favorites” that you can depict on back of name tag.

2 English 12: B day- Day 2 9/3 Objective: Students will learn elements that are important to writing memoirs, college letters and narratives: passion, tone, style, concision, precision. Key question: How does one make writing authentic? Tasks to do: See seating chart 1. Syllabus breakdown(10) 2. Letter to student model(10) 3. Name tag model- 100 words. (10) 4. 3 English 12- “A” day- day 3 9/4 Objective: Students will learn elements that are important to writing memoirs, college letters and narratives: passion, tone, style, concision, and precision. Key question: How does one make writing authentic? Tasks to do: ** Warm up # 1 1. Present name tags(40) 2. Post photographs- use push pins. 2. Gil Heron-Scott authentic models to evaluate and discuss:(45) A. “Pieces of a Young Man” B. “The Bottle” C. “We almost Lost Detroit.”

4 English 12: 9/10/15 A Day:#4 Objective: Students study 3 authentic models from Gil Scott-Heron in order to understand characteristics and stylistic devices critical to authentic writing. Tasks: Warm up # 2- A. Review Pieces of a (Very Young) Man -Diction, characteristics. B. View two songs-annotate. C. Harkness discussion notes and information. D. Go over format for discussion. E. Graded discussion.

5 English 12: 9/14 “B” Day # 4 Objective: Students will analyze college letter examples to determine authenticity Tasks today: 1. Warm up # 3 –photograph writing assignment. 2. Each table group is a university: A. Read each essay B. Annotate a little, name the essay. C. Accept or reject into your prestigious university. Homework? Yes. Read the rest of essays on line and annotate so your group can finish quickly on Wednesday.

Objective: Students will analyze college letter examples to determine authenticity. Tasks today: 1. Warm up # 4 –photograph writing assignment. 2. Finish: Evaluation of college letters: B. Discuss for individual points C. Turn in group work- be sure you review direction sheet so you get full credit. C. Accept or reject into your prestigious university. Use sticky notes. Put on the board. D. Assign first writing task. Memoir, personal essay, or college letter. See handout and rubric.

7 English 12- 9/17 “A” Day Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of the “personal, informal, narrative or college writing essay by drafting, and determining a narrow focus. Task # 1 Complete brainstorming sheet. Task # 2 Draft- at least 300 words today. -Get stamped when finished. Task # 3 Work on a good hook. Get stamp for approved hook. Draft # 1 is due Monday.

8 English 12: 9/17/15 “A” Day Objective: Students demonstrate their understanding of the characteristics of an informal essay by writing a personal essay or college letter. Task 1: Complete brainstorming sheet. Task 2: Get Hook approved. Task 3: Draft 300 words. Task 4: Make a stamp sheet with labels. ** 3 stamps are available today. First draft due date: Monday, or Tuesday,9/21-9/22. Bring 2 copies of a draft which is words in length.

9 English 12 : “B” Day 9/22 Objective # 1: Students will take notes on background information regarding the “Humans of New York”(HONY) project in order to proceed on their own “Humans of Liberty” project. Warm up # 5: Follow directions of power point slide. Task 1: Take a photograph today or tomorrow that shows a complexity or contradiction and bring to class on Thursday.

Active in one color, passive in another color. Task 2 : Check cliché’s: Circle cliché. Task 3 : Count how many stylistic devices the writer uses. Task 4: Get 2 stamps for rough draft copies. Task 5: Get 3 stamps for close reading activity.

Intro Task: Listen to “Unbound”-discuss subjects related to N.A. Issues. Task 1: Listen to Bill Moyer’s interview. Task 2: Read “Superman and Me” Task 3: Discuss Post-modernistic literature. Task 4: Read graphic organizer on modern literature. ** Keep diction, and subject annotation notes:

13 English 12 “ B” Day 9/24 Objective: Students need to review their close reading annotations on active and passive voice, cliché’s and style and revise their informal essay tonight. Task 1: If you need some help, come see me. The essay is due Tuesday. Senior business today. Pay attention and ask questions!

Warm up: Look at your topics list: what topic does your photograph characterize and why? A. write theme statements related to homework assignment. Task 1: Read “Superman and Me” Take Cornell notes. Discuss. Essay is on line. ** Keep Cornell notes. : A. complete analysis work sheet- Due at end of period. Task 3: Listen to “Unbound”-discuss subjects related to N.A. Issues. Take notes. Task 1 Socratic discussion on “What You Pawn. Task 2 Analysis worksheets- staple together and turn in “Superman and Me” and “ What You Pawn” Task 3 Work on trail map for “ What You Pawn.”

17 English 12 “A” day- 10/7 Objective: Students learn how Alexie is dealing with Native American’s loss of identity and culture by tracing Jackson Jackson’s steps toward his culture’s regalia. Task 1: Warm up: listen to song and try to find connection to Alexie’s “What You Pawn, I shall Redeem.” Task 2: Socratic seminar on “What You Pawn…” 20 minutes. Task 3 : Finish map of Jackson Jackson’s journey.

18 English 12 : “B” Day 10/8/15 Objective: Students read and listen to Sherman Alexie’s young adult novel in order to synthesize issues from his other works to gain further understanding of his purpose. Warm up # 4: Listen to NPR interview with Alexie: What are at least 3 issues that he will address in his young adult novel. Task 1: Listen and read along. -Track issues, post-modernistic topics( have your sheet handy!!) and rhetoric( how does Alexie control his voice. Task 2 : Finish Jackson Jackson journey map.

Warm up # 4: Listen to NPR interview with Alexie: What are at least 3 issues that he will address in his young adult novel. Task 1: Listen and read along. -Track issues, post-modernistic topics( have your sheet handy!!) and rhetoric( how does Alexie control his voice. Task 2 : Finish Jackson Jackson journey map.
