10 Matthew 9:9–10 9 As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me.” And he rose and followed Him. 10 And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and His disciples.

11 Matthew 9:11–13 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when He heard it, He said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

12 “Developing Contagious Relationships”
JESUS G2424 Ἰησοῦς Jesus = “Jehovah is salvation”. Levi G3018 Λευίς Levi = “joined”.    Matthew G3156 Μαθθαῖος, Ματθαῖος Matthew = “gift of Jehovah”.

15 Luke 5:27 After this He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, Palestine was subject to the Romans taxation. Tax-collectors had served the Roman government; therefore they were regarded as rebels and traitors. The Romans assessed a district at a certain amount and then sold the right to collect that figure to the highest bidder. The tax-collectors were entitled to keep whatever else he could extract from the people.

The tax-collectors were entitled to keep whatever else he could extract from the people.

17 Jesus = “Jehovah is salvation”. Levi = “joined”.
   Matthew = “gift of Jehovah”.

18 Jesus saw Levi and Transformed him into Matthew = “gift of Jehovah”.
Yes Jesus saw the sin of Levi, but he looked beyond the sin and saw the man in need. The song writer said “He looked beyond my fault, and saw my need”

19 “Developing Contagious Relationships”
Luke 5:27-28 And He said to him, “Follow Me.” 28 And leaving everything, he rose and followed Him. Why did Levi/Matthew abruptly leave everything to follow Jesus? He must have heard about Jesus before. The Holy Spirit, had begun working on his heart.

20 “Developing Contagious Relationships” Luke 5:29 And Levi made Him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. An instant evangelist, he through a party and invited people who he already knew. He brought them to his home that they could meet Jesus.

21 Luke 5:30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Pharisees = Pharisaíos transcribes an Aramaic word denoting “separated.” Scribe = grammateús in the 2nd Testament the term represents the rabbinic scholar or theologian, as the Hebrew does in Nehemiah, and 1 Chronicles.

22 Luke 5:30-32 30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Opposition will come

23 “Developing Contagious Relationships” Luke 5: And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Jesus came for those that were sick, and knew that they needed help.

24 “Developing Contagious Relationships”
Luke 5:32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Jesus did not come for good people. The Bible declares that there is none that is good; however some are not yet ready to acknowledge that they are sick and in need; but who ever will accept the free gift, shall be saved.

25 “Developing Contagious Relationships” Luke 5:29 And Levi made Him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. Instantly being himself began to evangelize. He had a party and invited people who he already knew. We do not have to become someone else, to share the Good News. Be You!!!

26 “Developing Contagious Relationships” What do unbelievers want and need from us? How can we best reach out to them? Be yourself and become contagious in your present relationships.

27 “What Is God Saying To You Today?”
Are you a Levi, joined to the wrong master? God loves you! Do you wish you knew God for yourself? God wants to make Himself known you! Do you find sharing your faith extremely difficult? God wants to help you!

28 Benediction Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, may He cloth you with His anointing, may His face shine upon you, and equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in you that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
