Humans and other apes Start with humans and order the rest of the apes according to how closely they are related to us: bonobos, chimpanzees, gibbons, gorillas, humans, monkeys, orangutans. The correct order is: humans, chimpanzees and bonobos, gorillas, orangutans, gibbons, monkeys. Which ones do you think are the great apes? The great apes are humans, chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans and gorillas.

Some people criticised Dian Fossey because she got close to the gorillas, interacting with them, playing, touching their hands. They said that scientists should just observe the animals from a distance. Give two advantages and two problems of working so closely with the animals you observe.
