Background Evidence suggests that a relationship exists between exercise capacity and the COPD Assessment Test. There is however no concurrent comparison of the correlations between the most commonly employed exercise tests and the CAT score. Aim: To compare the correlation between the CAT score and Incremental Cycle Ergometry (ICE), Constant Work Rate Cycle Test (CWR), Incremental Shuttle Walk Test (ISWT), Endurance Shuttle Walk Test (ESWT) and the Six Minute Walk Test (6MWT) in patients with stable COPD. Results 46 subjects (mean [SD] or *median (IQR); age (years) [7.9], %male 80.4, MRC* 3 [3-3], FEV1 % Predicated [17.78], ISWT (m) 307 [0.39], ESWT (sec) [236.54], 6MWT (m) [83.40], ICE WRPEAK (w) [27.16], CWR tlim (sec) [102.54]) were included. Significant correlations were seen between the CAT and the ISWT (r=0.50 P<0.01), 6MWT (r=0.53 P<0.01) and ICE (r=0.45 p<0.01) See Figure 1; A, B and C. No significant correlations were observed for the ESWT (r=0.08) or CWR (r=0.17) See Figure 1; D and E. Following familiarisation subjects performed a symptom- limited test for the following: Data was analysed using appropriate parametric and non- parametric testing and reported as mean[SD} or *median [IQR]. No significant correlation was observed with the endurance protocols.
