I don’t think that writer’s block exists really
I don’t think that writer’s block exists really. I think that when you’re trying to do something prematurely, it just won’t come. Certain subjects just need time, as I’ve learned over and over again. You’ve got to wait before you write about them. --Joyce Carol Oates

Your Comments: What You Learned
Google Docs is easy! Good to see former WP alum. Hale is doing its part for the program as far as participants. The power of writing is overwhelming, thought-provoking, amazing. Some awesome ideas about Everyday Advocacy. They were so enthusiastic about making a difference.

Your Comments: What You Learned
I also learned about the ways in which we stay Teacher Leaders forever!!! I liked having time to read & discuss different aspects of social justice. I wish we had done more of this! Social justice doesn’t have to be the idea that ate your existence-it can start small scale & grow from something grass roots.

Your Comments: What You Learned
Importance of trying to make the students the messengers with social issues advocacy. Everyday advocacy is awesome, great way to help kids write about what they are passionate about. There are parent letters about the writing project. Over the last few weeks I’ve learned that the teachers in this program are good writers! We should all be trying to get published more. Maybe other people who believe that we know what we’re doing!

What Surprised You? What Questions Do You Have?
I’m surprised that Google Docs is so easy and user friendly. Surprised about the number of opportunities for WP Alum. Writing is POWERFUL! How funny Heather is! She was cracking us up during our inquiry groups. Nothing surprises me anymore. All the many things the Writing Project does!

What Surprised You? What Questions Do You Have?
Really liked the “Speaking Truth to Power”-reminds us about the major shifts to develop independent writers. I write with much more focus when there’s a deadline. I’m volunteering for things even though Kathy says I should learn to say “No”-Kidding! But it did dawn on me that this is something that happens to me a lot.

What Do You Want To Know More About?
I want to learn more about the writing camps for the kids? What happens, sounds so awesome I want to hear what happens! I’m excited to move my classroom towards more of a writer’s workshop, but are there units that won’t have that same level of workshop time. For example, doing an ERWC unit doesn’t seem compatible with a full writer’s workshop. Still a little worried about where our inquiry group is headed, but we will get there.

I believe that the so-called “writing block” is a product of some kind of disproportion between your standards and your performance….One should lower his standards until there is no felt threshold to go over in writing. It’s easy to write. You just shouldnt have standards that inhibit you from writing. --William Stafford
