Rainforest Deforestation
By Stephanie Duarte, Mitchell Davidson, Dwane Wiseman
2
What is Rainforest Deforestation?
Rainforest deforestation is the cutting, clearing or removal of rainforests to convert them into less bio- diverse ecosystems such as plantations or croplands
3
Causes of Deforestation…
The causes are logging, mining, oil and gas extraction, cattle ranching, agriculture (cash crops), and local, national, and international factors.
4
Rainforests in Danger Amazon Rainforest- In 1970, the Brazilian government decided to try to integrate the rainforest with the rest of the country by building over 9000 miles of roads through the forest. Since the Amazon became more accessible, farmers began to come in and wipe out part of the land to put their agriculture on. Also, soybean farming was very popular in southern Brazil and this allowed farmers to clear trees to expand their production northward.

Why it’s important to fix this problem
It’s important that we fix this problem because deforestation is responsible for about 20% of the emission of carbon dioxide from human activities Greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced and stopping deforestation is one of the factors that will stop most greenhouse gas.
