1 LHCONE L3VPN Status update Mian Usman LHCOPN-LHCONE meeting
Helsinki, 19th Sept 2016

2 World regions Asia Europe North America Latin America : IPv6 enabled

3 Asia-Pacific Top Graph is TIFR
Middle Graph is ASGC: have seen drop in outbound traffic since early Feb Bottom Graph is SINET. They have three peering with us most of the traffic is on our link to Paris as shown above. The inbound traffic before this week seems low as the link in Frankfurt was being used for inbound traffic.

4 Asia-Pacific SINET migrated to the new 2x10G to London
KEK (BELLE2 Tier0) connected to SINET TIFR Peering with GÉANT LHCONE VRF LHCONE VRF now setup in TEIN and peering with GÉANT LHCONE VRF THAIREN and TEIN have established BGP peering KISTI-TEIN connected to 1G (later upgrade to 10G) – LHCONE implementation expected in march ASGC peering in AMS

5 LHCONE in Europe LHCONE IP Service in Europe is deployed in:
ARNES (Slovenia) CERN/CERNLight (Switzerland) CESnet (Czech Republic) DFN (Germany) GARR (Italy) GÉANT JISC (UK) NORDUnet RENATER (France) RoEduNet (Romania) SURFnet (Netherlands) Belnet (Belgium) URAN (Ukraine) RENs in these countries connect: Six Tier 1s in Europe to LHCONE 30 Tier 2s in Europe to LHCONE Indian T2 Russian T2s (only to NORDUNet/CERN)

6 CERN Tier1 is now directly connected to GÉANT and ESnet with 100G interfaces 1 x 100G GEANT 2 x 100G ESnet The peering with GÉANT is now direct, not through CERNLight CERNLight now peers with PSNC (Polish NREN)

7 ARNES - CESNET In the ARNES graph that short 30Gbps is an error.
Both graph show peaks of 10Gbps and indication of even flat-line at some points so upgrade of these is required.

8 ARNES - CESNET In the ARNES graph that short 30Gbps is an error.
Both graph show peaks of 10Gbps and indication of even flat-line at some points so upgrade of these is required.

9 DFN Regular peaks of 20Gbps both inbound and outbound on both DFN links. They have two 100GE links one in Frankfurt and other in Amsterdam.

10 GARR Graph clearly indicate significant traffic increase the peak traffic of 20Gbps at same time last year now regularly peaks at over 30Gbps. The average traffic has doubled from around 10Gbps to 20Gbps.

11 VRF established on the JANET network
JISC VRF established on the JANET network Configuration completed during April/May ‘15 Imperial College is the first site to connect Currently in production Average traffic is very low however there are regular peaks of around 20Gbps.

12 NORDUNet Moved the LHCONE connection to GÉANT from Copenhagen to London on 100G port The LHCONE connection to ESNet and Internet2 is at MANLAN via ANA-200G The peering is on the NORDUNet router in MANLAN The graph shows total LHCONE traffic in NORDUnet which include links to CERN, GÉANT, Esnet and other connectors.

13 RedIRIS - RoEduNet RedIRIS: Peak traffic of around 8Gbps
RoEduNet: Upgraded their access to GÉANT to 2 x 10GE LHC Traffic peaks at 10Gbps.

14 RENATER RENATER has two connections one in Geneva and the other in Paris. Both are being used in parallel and both have regular peaks of over 15Gbps.

15 RENATER IPv6 RENATER has two connections one in Geneva and the other in Paris. Both are being used in parallel and both have regular peaks of over 15Gbps.

16 SARA-Matrix

17 GÉANT overall Weekly Yearly
Same time last year the peak traffic was around 40Gbps and average traffic closer to 30Gbps now we see regular peaks of over 60Gbps. Overall traffic seems to be growing as you can see from GARR traffic their traffic is also growing. Some of NRENs and sites need to be upgraded as they seem to be flat-lining. We expect to see a lot more traffic after these NRENs and sites have upgraded.

18 ESnet Peering with GÉANT in the new ESnet PoPs in Europe
LON, AMS, GVA 3 x 100G Peering with CERN in GVA 2 x 100G Sites connected ARLINGTON(18515) BNL(43) FNAL(3152) SLAC(3671) UIUC(38) UNL(7896) OPTIPUTER(26397) AGLT2(229) Purdue CMS T2(17) LHCONE traffic in ESnet have almost doubled as well, almost 90% increase in traffic from same time last year July – 2016 August – 2016 Feb – 2016

19 Traffic between Internet2 and GÉANT LHCONE VRFs

20 CANARIE 100G to PacificWave Seattle and to MANLAN

21 Latin America GÉANT LHCONE RNP VRF LHCONE VRF
Configuration of the peering from GÉANT VRF to RNP VRF completed Peering point in London, both IPv4 and IPv6 No VRF in RedCLARA for the time being Just delivering the L2 circuit from GÉANT to RNP VRF creation will be investigated if more NRENs in L.A. request to connect Circuit and BGP peering established in May ’15 CBPF and GRIPER/SAMPA Brazil now connected to RNP’s VRF GÉANT LHCONE VRF RNP LHCONE VRF VLAN 2015 mx1.lon.uk

22 The LHCONE network is expanding
Summary The LHCONE network is expanding URAN and BELNET now connected to LHCONE via GÉANT South America is now a stable partner, Chile is interested to join Small amount of traffic now being exchange with TEIN Traffic within LHCONE is steadily growing GÉANT has seen peaks of over 100Gbps Growth of over 65% from Q to Q2 2016 Some NRENs and sites need to upgrade their connection GÉANT is already working with the NRENs for the upgrades In some cases it’s just a re-configuration of the existing access ports We expect to see further increases after the upgrades
