Questions and Answers Some humble figures while we chat:
A tanker lorry (avg. 30,000 ltr) has 400 times more of a damaging effect on a road than a car. The East of England uses on avg. 3.8 bn ltrs fuel per year. To distribute that fuel to the ~ 825 petrol fuel stations (PFS) it requires ~ 35 lorries driving a day. Each lorry will have to drive from a refinery that is on avg. 180 miles away, one way. A lorry has approx. £0.01 cost in wear on a road per mile. Therefore, costing the East of England £19,000 per month in road wear. Each PFS has avg. 4,000 cars that use it and avg. distance a driver drives to a PFS is 20 miles there and back. Therefore, costing the East of England £3,300 per month in road wear.
