Sport Development Recognising the need to actively engage with the Stakeholders in Sport Development

What Are We Here For?? Athlete Development Coaching Sponsorship and
Marketing Participation Officials Equipment Without Competition, there is virtually no need for doing any other activities, many of which become central to the operations of sports clubs and associations. Competition is the primary property of the sport and it is ultimately the primary reason why a sports association exists, makes money and if they are fortunate, become a viable and economically sustainable industry. Facilities Management Administration

Investment in Development = Elevated Outcome
Development Triangle IT is how as much as what we do that makes a difference. It is essential that people understand the difference between sport and Sport. All too often investment is made at the top end of sport without attending to the broader membership. While success can be attained as measured by international competitive achievement, the long term viability of such programs will always be questionable. Investment in Development = Elevated Outcome
8
Development Triangle Investment in Outcome = Arrested Development
IN fact an over emphasis on the top end can very often kill a sport in the long run. One cannot exist without the other. Investment in Outcome = Arrested Development Arrested Development = Disappointing Outcomes

Areas of Priority Human Resource Development. Coaching
Umpires and Officials Athletes Administrators Financial Sponsorship and Marketing Facilities Development and Management Special Groups Having established a base of competition a reason for developing human resources is created. The larger the competitions become the greater the need for human resources with specialised training and experience becomes. So as we have seen with the Australian Open, as it has developed its profile and sophistication so has the need for staffing and facilities to keep pace. The same applies to Sports Clubs, Associations and Federations.
12
Human Resource Development
Employment of Sports Development Officers. We need to ensure that our staff are properly trained and updated. Properly structured ‘on call’ accreditation for coaches and officials. Once the decision is taken to employ human resources, professional or voluntary then there is a need to support them both with logistical resources and education. It is a common experience across sport in the Region that sports organisations pay little attention to this vital aspect of sports development and ensure that support is given to keep staff and volunteers up to date with the knowledge and resources that are available to make them better at their job.
13
Areas of Priority Regular Venue Construction Management Access
Facilities Development. Regular Venue Construction Management Access Strategic location Promotion But what comes first the chicken or the egg? Facilities are needed for sport and every Sports Association strives from early on to obtain facilities to play and prepare for their sport. As the standard of the competitions improve so the demand for better and more sophisticated facilities increase. As the appeal of the competitions increase so the need to cater for a greater range of services within the facility develops. The challenge is to plan for facilities that meet the need of the sport without creating financial problems in trying to maintain them.
