2 Manifest Destiny Manifest Destiny was the 19th century American belief that the United States (often in the ethnically specific form of the "Anglo-Saxon race") was destined to expand across the North American continent, from the Atlantic seaboard to the Pacific Ocean.

3 Anglo-Saxons is the term usually used to describe the invading Germanic tribes in the south and east of Great Britain from the early 5th century AD, and their creation of the English nation

4 Immigration Immigration was one of the huge results of the Gilded Age. With the sudden resurgence of big business there were a large number of jobs available with pay more than the jobs in Europe so naturally many Europeans immigrated to the US for the purpose of opportunity. Many American families can trace their roots back to Europe to this time period.

5 Ellis Island One place that became the center for this immigration process was called Ellis Island.

6 Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the United States as the nation's busiest immigrant inspection station for over sixty years from 1892 until The island was greatly expanded with land reclamation between 1892 and Before that, the much smaller original island was the site of Fort Gibson and later a naval magazine. The island was made part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965, and has hosted a museum of immigration since 1990. Wikipedia

10 Gilded Age In American history, the Gilded Age refers to the era of rapid economic and population growth in the United States after the Civil War and Reconstruction eras of the late 19th century ( ). The term "Gilded Age" was coined by Mark Twain. A period in our history when expansion moved faster than the rules created to govern it.

16 Nationalism a strong identification of a group of individuals with a political entity defined in national terms, a nation.

17 Militarism Glorification of the ideals of a professional military class. Predominance of the armed forces in the administration or policy of the state. A policy in which military preparedness is of primary importance to a state.
