2 Many different baby animals and their parents live in the Smoky Mountains and other nearby areas.

3 This is a white tailed deer and her baby
This is a white tailed deer and her baby. The baby has white spots on it to help it blend in. As the baby grows up, the spots disappear.

4 This is what a barred owl baby and adult looks like
This is what a barred owl baby and adult looks like. The baby doesn’t have its adult feathers. It still has baby feathers called “down.” Although its feathers are different, the baby is similar to the parents in some ways, such as its large eyes and round face.

5 This is a baby red fox and its parent
This is a baby red fox and its parent. The parent is larger than the baby is. The baby has the same red color as the parents.

6 This is a monarch butterfly and what it looks like as a caterpillar
This is a monarch butterfly and what it looks like as a caterpillar. A caterpillar is the baby version of a butterfly. As the caterpillar grows up, it builds a chrysalis and transforms into a butterfly. Although the caterpillar is yellow, black, and white and the butterfly is orange, black, and white, they are still the same animal.
