From: Applicability of Cholesterol-Lowering Primary Prevention Trials to a General PopulationThe Framingham Heart Study Arch Intern Med. 2001;161(7): doi: /archinte Figure Legend: Bivariate ellipsoids showing the mean ± 2 SDs of the total and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels of men with (solid line) and without (broken line) prevalent coronary heart disease (CHD) in the Framingham Heart Study (data from Wilson et al). The center point of each ellipsoid represents the mean total cholesterol and HDL-C value for that group. The horizontal axes of the ellipsoids include the mean ± 2 SDs of the total cholesterol level; the vertical axes of the ellipsoids include the mean ± 2 SDs of the HDL-C value. Note the considerable overlap of the 2 ellipsoids for those with and without prevalent CHD. Date of download: 11/10/2017 Copyright © 2001 American Medical Association. All rights reserved.
