Complete the Google form to tell me which poem you want me to grade for content, Turn in your found poem if you have not already. When you have completed the tasks above, read independently.

review the expectations for the poetry slam poem and performance. analyze choices and select one to develop into a poem. draft a narrative poem that recounts a fictional or true event dealing with the concept of choice.

5 The Task Part 1: Your task is write a narrative poem that recounts a fictional or true event dealing with the concept of choice. The poem must demonstrate your knowledge of narrative elements and poetic devices. Part 2: Your task is to present your narrative poem to the class during our poetry slam. The class winners will compete in a district wide poetry slam contest.

7 THE GROUND RULES Poems must be original Groups of no more than 3
Only 3 minutes to present No props, costumes, or musical instruments

8 SCORE BOARD: NARRATIVE POEM
Additional Requirements 1 simile, metaphor, or personification 1 example of alliteration 1 hyperbole 1 symbol Can be written free verse or in stanzas, rhyming is optional Must be at least 1 page typed (max 2)

Additional Requirements Poem should be memorized Can be sung

How does she use her tone and body language to communicate her message to the audience?

11 Day 1: April 11th Brainstorming/Planning
Make a list of important choices you have had to make, as well as choices you might have to make in your future. Review your list and put a star next to the 3 choices you see as the most crucial.

12 Day 1: April 11th Brainstorming/Planning
Select one choice from the 3 you put a star next to. Create a multi-flow map to explain the events leading up to the choice, the choice, and the results of the choice.

13 Day 2: April 12th Drafting Refer back to the rubric for the poem and then begin drafting. Remember the following: Must be narrative Must deal with the concept of choice Length should be between 1-2 pages typed in 12 point Times New Roman font.

14 Day 3: April 13th Revise/Edit/Publish
Read back over your poem silently and then read it aloud. Do you see any places where you need to make changes to improve clarity or opportunities to connect with the audience at a deeper level? Get with a partner and exchange poems Revision 3 things you like, 2 suggestions, 1 question

15 Day 4: April 14th Rehearse Find a spot in the room or hallway to quietly practice your poem. Perform your poem in front of a classmate. Have them score you based on the rubric. Consider what you might need to practice for your performance. Homework: Practice your poem and be ready to present tomorrow.
