Until 2007, Elanex built its business steadily
Developing technology … Using it to create a competitive edge in translation services (a larger market) Selling translation services In 2007, a new world began to emerge … FLA Technology Symposium 3

An emerging social ecosystem in translation
The Elanex Translation Search Engine, an online translation memory, pre-populated with 30 million translations, and growing exponentially as a result of user contributions The Elanex Translation Crowdsourcing Architecture – a system enabling companies to take advantage of TSE contributions as a new mechanism for getting their translations done FLA Technology Symposium 4
5
The Translation Search Engine (TSE)
Online, instant translation memory Search for any word, phrase or sentence Find previous translations, similar translations, and context Incredibly simple to use As a ‘tool’, translation memory is already popular – but access to a repository of existing translations is the key to real productivity Users contribute their own efforts in return for access Users can translate, edit or contribute in other ways Contributions are ‘one-sided’ – a small contribution receives a generous return Each user is assigned a ‘trust’ level by the Elanex system which determines the scope of his/her contributions FLA Technology Symposium 5
6
The Translation Crowdsourcing Architecture
A software architecture and set of plug-ins enabling any company to post material for translation to the TSE Translations are free - this is a whole new way for companies to get translation done Provided as contributions by users In return for TSE access Contributions become part of the TSE and are available to others Confidential terms and items are removed by Elanex Contributions are edited by Elanex or other users FLA Technology Symposium 6
7
TSE + Crowdsourcing Translators working on their own projects search for translations in the TSE In return for translations provided by the TSE, translators contribute translations Completed translations are returned to the client, and stored in the TSE Material to be translated is placed in the TSE via Elanex’s crowdsourcing architecture FLA Technology Symposium 7
8
Why does this work? The world benefits Elanex benefits
Companies benefit Directly: a new, free translation alternative Translators benefit Directly: access to the TSE gives them direct productivity gains (cash saving) and learning opportunities Indirectly: working on the translation of ‘prestige’ accounts Elanex benefits Directly: the TSE saves money on all translations, and we have an opportunity to provide value-added services to crowdsourcing clients Indirectly: the more users of the TSE the better our professional services The world benefits Language is still a barrier to global business and collaboration of all kinds, and translation today is still a huge cost (and software-based translation is still some distance away) The TSE and crowdsourcing will help to bring that cost down FLA Technology Symposium 8
