How do lifestyle choices effect our health? How can changing our lifestyle choices be beneficial / harmful? GRADE YOUR LEARNING 3/4 – Identify the four areas that make up our lifestyle 5/6 – Explain the recommendations for a healthy lifestyle 7/8 – Evaluate these recommendations for themselves and others.

Extended Writing Question
Using your knowledge gained in the lesson answer one of the following questions: 4/5: Describe the three benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.(3 marks) 6/7: Explain how participating in exercise can benefit physical, social and emotional health. Include sporting examples (6 marks). 8/9: Analyse how the physical, social and emotional benefits of sport can help a performer stay motivated. (9 marks). 4/5: Describe the three benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle (3 marks).
The three benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle are physical, social and emotional. Physical benefits are anything to do with the body. Social benefits are related to the ability to interact with others. Emotional benefits are anything to do with the mind.

6/7: Explain how participating in exercise can benefit physical, social and emotional health. Include sporting examples (6 marks). The three benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle are physical, social and emotional. Physical benefits are anything to do with the body; for example, training to run a marathon has physical benefits as it will increase the cardiovascular fitness of an individual. Social benefits are related to the ability to interact with others; for example, playing as part of a football team has social benefits as you have to co-operate with others. Emotional benefits are anything to do with the mind. For example, when you achieve something that is difficult, like training and completing a triathlon, it can lead to an increase in self esteem.

8: Analyse how the physical, social and emotional benefits of sport can help a performer stay motivated. (9). The three benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle are physical, social and emotional. Physical benefits are anything to do with the body. For example, training to run a marathon has physical benefits as it will increase the cardiovascular fitness of an individual, therefore motivating the individual to keep trying to maintain or improve their fitness levels. Social benefits are related to the ability to interact with others. For example, playing as part of a football team has social benefits as you have to co-operate with others. This will motivate a performer as they will want to ensure they achieve for their team mates as well as themselves. Emotional benefits are anything to do with the mind. For example, when you achieve something that is difficult, like training and completing a triathlon, it can lead to an increase in self esteem. This will motivate the performer further as it will give them an increase in confidence and they will believe they can achieve even more. In conclusion physical, social and emotional benefits of sport help the performers in a variety of ways and really support the performer to stay motivated.

Lifestyle Choices Our lifestyle choices are made up from the decisions we make about the following: Diet Activity Level Work/Rest/Sleep balance Recreational Drugs (alcohol and nicotine)

What changes could you make to improve your lifestyle?
Task 1 Write down at least three positive lifestyle choices you are currently making. How are these choices benefitting your lifestyle? Exercising regularly? Eating lots of fruit and vegetables? Getting 8+ hours of sleep each night? Drinking lots of water? Stretch & Challenge What changes could you make to improve your lifestyle?

Diet Ensuring you eat a healthy balanced diet, alongside staying hydrated will minimise the risks of health issues you may face in the future. Recommendations 2 – 4 litres of water per day. 5 a day of fruit and vegetables. 2000kcal for females and 2500kcal for males per day.

Activity Level The amount of exercise you participate in per week. This could be anything from leisurely walking to competitive sports and training for long distance events. Recommendations Young people aged 5 to 18 need to do: At least 60 minutes of physical activity every day On three days a week, these activities should involve exercises for strong muscles

Effects of fitness on well-being
Positive effects Negative effects Time off to recover from injury can lead to psychological problems. Can help control weight Exercise improves longevity (how long you will live). Helps you cope with the physical side of life Puts you at risk of sport-related injury Lowers risk of psychological illness Lowers risk of eating problems Competition pressure can lead to psychological problems Means you are less likely to use drugs or smoke Early specialisation in one sport can reduce other opportunities Gives you a lower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure Can lead to obsessive interest in body shape or composition

Work – Rest – Sleep Balance
This is the amount of time you spend doing each of the three things. If you spend too much time on one area, you are missing out on valuable time in one of the other areas. If you are working too many hours in a day, you will not have enough time to rest or do things you enjoy, and not get the recommended amount of sleep.

Recreational Drugs Alcohol and nicotine are two drugs which are widely used around the world. Both are legal in the UK, however both have negative impacts on your lifestyle.
