Colonists - ___________________________________________________________________ King/Parliament- ______________________________________________________________ All colonists, King/Parliament 1763, 13 colonies The King created a law that stated no colonist can move west past the Appalachian Mountains. The King sends an additional 7,500 troops to enforce this law. Thought this law was an act of tyranny (abuse of power) hated that more soldiers are in America, some ignored law He created this because he feared colonists would start fighting the Indians.

Colonists - ___________________________________________________________________   ____________________________________________________________________ King/Parliament- ______________________________________________________________ All colonists, King/Parliament 1765, 13 colonies Estimated that England was over 100 million dollars in debt from French and Indian War. So Parliament decides to collect taxes on anything made from paper. Colonists had to carry a stamp with them to show they paid the tax. Primarily against the tax because they have no representatives (members) in Parliament. They boycotted paper products and the tax is repealed (cancelled). Felt that the tax was fair (help pay for war debt)

Colonists - ___________________________________________________________________ King/Parliament- ______________________________________________________________ All colonists, King/Parliament 1765, 13 colonies Parliament passed a law forcing colonists to house British soldiers. Colonists were to provide soldiers with food and shelter They are angry because they have to pay for soldiers they do not even want (also invasion of privacy) Less money they have to pay to support soldiers

Colonists - ___________________________________________________________________ King/Parliament- ______________________________________________________________ All colonists, King/Parliament 1767, 13 colonies Even though the Stamp Act was repealed, Parliament comes back with even more taxes. Paper, paint, glass lead, and tea are items being taxed. Unhappy about taxes and boycotted these items Happy, get some extra money to pay for debt

Colonists - ___________________________________________________________________ King/Parliament- ______________________________________________________________ People of Boston, British soldiers 1770, Boston, customs house (warehouse) The colonists started protesting outside of a customs house. The colonists started throwing rocks and glass at the British soldiers guarding it. The soldiers fired into the crowd and killed 5 colonists. This event led to more anti-British sentiment (thoughts) because when newspapers told the story, it left out that they started the riot. Felt the soldiers did what they should have done
