BACKGROUND There has been explosive growth in the use of internet not only in India, but also worldwide in the last decade. Globally, there are about 3 billion internet users by 2015

CONTD.. In India, number of internet users has reached to 354 million till June 2015 India has more internet users than US Become the second largest country by the number of internet users after China.

MOBILE INTERNET USERS The number of mobile internet users in India grew from 173 million in December 2014 to 213 million users by the end of June 2015. Now, about 60% of internet users in India access the internet via their mobile phones

MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among medical students of Government Medical College, Surat, to assess the pattern of smart phone and internet usage. A semi-structured proforma along with Young's Internet Addiction scale was used

CONCLUSION Although some participants were using smartphone for academic literature search, majority were using it for social networking About half of the boys & girls feel that they were addicted to internet Majority of participants including few girls were watching porn on their smartphones
