Mrs. Jones’ Weekly News September 27, 2013
Language Arts This week for Lead 21, we have been learning all about different ways we are all special and we read a new poem called Play Day. We talked about games your child plays and the things they like to do that make them different. We are learning to find important information within a story and to compare and contrast items too. Alphabet Fun This week we learned letters Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, and Mm. We had fun learning some rhymes for these letters. We also made a list on the board of all of our friend’s names that have these letters in them. Have fun going on a letter hunt at home! Please be sure to practice these charts in your child’s Alphabet Folder (yellow one). We are also learning all about Syllables. Have your kiddo clap out the sound parts they hear in various words. SCIENCE Happy Birthday to you… Johnny “Appleseed” John Chapman~ Sept. 26th Plus…in honor of Johnny Appleseed’s Birthday we had a yummy “Gala” apple treat! We learned about who this special man was and have enjoyed some apple stories too! Jellybean Winners from Open House Congratulations to: Tyler Solensky ~ Mrs. Jones’ AM Haley Hudson ~ PM Soraya Green ~ Mrs. Hein’s AM Total Amount was: 79 Reader’s Club This week we have continued to do 4 group rotations: Phonics ~ working on Leap pads Writing ~ about what they like to do Vocabulary ~ Writing Words on Dry erase boards Listening /Computers Math The first math test on Sorting and positions went home and they need to be signed and returned by Friday, Sept. 27th. Great Job Kindergarten Kiddos!! Please remember to practice Left and Right. We have started our next unit all about graphing and have made a REAL GRAPH with the boys and girls in the classroom. Enjoy the math story that went home with your kiddo too! Yummy…we even made M&M graphs. Next week be on the lookout for a family fun math homework activity to come home with your kiddo. Stay tuned! How Do You Know It’s Fall? We shared a special fall story with real photographs about how we know it is fall. Please read over the information sheet that your kiddo brought home. Also, enjoy going on a Nature Walk over the weekend to look for the many signs of Fall! ALL ABOUT SPEECH This week we had a chance to have Mrs. Barrow, our speech teacher, come to the classroom to teach us about all of the parts that we use to produce sounds when we talk. We also will be getting our hearing checked next week and she did a little demonstration for the boys and girls so they will know just what to do! IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Wednesday, October 2nd ~ Hearing Screenings (AM kindergarten only) PM will get this at a later time Please try to help your child with writing his/her first name using one capital letter and the rest lowercase. Also…please talk to your kiddo about the important rules for our classroom…. BE SAFE (hands and feet to self) BE READY (Give Me Five) BE RESPONSIBLE (listen to directions) BE RESPECTFUL (be kind to others) Please remember to SIGN and return the contract that went home at Open House! Thank you for your understanding as I prepare for Baby Jones’ arrival. Mrs. Hein has taken over the PM class and Miss Lewis will be in next week for me.
