1 Test Taking Tips Do your best On the test!

2 “Jail” the Detail Highlight, underline, or circle the details in the questions! This helps you focus on exactly what the question is. Example: Put the events in order from first to last

3 Be Slick and Predict! Read the question carefully.
Predict what the answer is BEFORE you read the choices. Example: Who was the president during the Great Depression? DON’T LOOK before you predict the answer. Then check to see if your prediction is a choice.

4 Slash the Trash Read ALL choices.
Eliminate any choice(s) that you KNOW is wrong. The answer is probably trash! Think carefully over the choices remaining. Choose what you think is the best answer Example: Who invented the telephone: Thomas Edison b. Johnny Appleseed c. Alexander Graham Bell d. Henry Ford

5 Plug it in, Plug it in! Once you have chosen your answer, PLUG IT IN and make sure it makes sense. Example: Who worked for women’s suffrage? Franklin D. Roosevelt b. Henry Ford Susan B. Anthony d. Bessie Smith Plug in the answer you chose. Does it make sense?

6 Be Smart with Charts & Zap the Maps!
Charts give information you need to answer questions. Be smart and use the chart! Maps give information you need to answer questions. Zap the Map!

7 Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
If the directions say read…. READ! You don’t want to miss anything! If necessary, GO BACK to the text and READ to find an answer to a question!

8 If you SNOOZE, You Will LOSE!
DON’T leave a question unanswered. You will not have any chance at getting it right! If you snooze and leave a question blank, YOU LOSE!

9 Keep On Keeping On! If you get to a couple of questions that you just don’t know, DON’T GIVE UP! Keep giving the test your very best. You will get to an easier question soon! Keep On Keeping On!

10 Check It Out! When you have completed the test, go back and CHECK IT OUT one more time! Sit back and relax as you browse through your test to reaffirm your answers. Don’t be lazy! Go the extra mile and CHECK IT OUT! You’ll be a winner!
