4 When do I go on Exchange? Terms: Academic Year: U2: Ideal
U3 :Graduation is likely to be delayed Terms: Fall Winter Most popular term Full-Year: there are restrictions as to where students can go for a full year: Course availability School demand Verify when term ends if you plan to return to McGill the following academic session

5 Application Requirements
U1, U2 or U3 (U3 students, please see adviser). 3.0 CGPA Minimum requirement to be eligible for an exchange program 2.7 to 3.0 CGPA application may be considered on case by case basis extenuating circumstances only in consultation with exchange partners No guarantee of a nomination nor acceptance A higher CGPA may be required to be a competitive applicant for the more popular exchange destinations You must be registered full-time at the time of application

6 Application Process On-Line application goes live on November 13th
How to apply in Minerva Deadline to submit on-line exchange application is: January 15, 2018 For the Academic year Application non-refundable fee of $150. This charge must be paid before next year registration begins to avoid registration holds Submit supporting documents to the SESA Office when required

7 Application Statement of purpose List of courses
Write a statement for each host (approx. 1/2 page per host) Statement should not be used to make personal requests List of courses Minimum of 8 per institution per term Choose institutions that have a good selection of courses for your program Courses are not guaranteed during your exchange term

8 School Selection Demand is high and spaces are limited (4 to 8 spots/ partner school/ year) Application permits 4 choices Must be in order of preference You must be willing to go to any of the choices submitted in the application Students who are not nominated to any of their 4 choices will be given alternative options

9 Research It is your responsibility to research key information about your host school: Country, City, School Course offerings in your specialization and/or electives Number of courses required for 15 McGill credits Add/Drop deadlines Start/End term dates OSD support Campus & residence location Language of Study Proximity to Temple, Chapel, Synagogue Dietary restrictions

10 Exchange Options Direct Bilateral – Business school exchange agreements (Management Faculty) Bilateral – University wide exchange agreements (General) List of Schools

11 Nomination Process Direct Bilateral Schools(Management):
Decisions are based on: Available spaces CGPA Statement of Purpose You will hear about your nomination about one month after the application deadline

12 Nomination Process Bilateral Schools (General):
Nominations are based on a Lottery System: Decisions are made by the central Exchange Office in Enrolment Services You are in competition with students from other faculties You will hear about your nomination four to six weeks after application deadline

13 Nomination Process If you apply for both University Wide and Management Faculty schools, we will tend to give you Management Faculty Schools.

14 If you do not get any of your 4 choices:
We will contact you to ask you: If you want to apply to the Bilateral Schools still available If you want to go the lottery to apply for General Partners If you applied to General Schools only, you will be given other General School options Note: it may be too late to be considered for our Direct Bilateral Schools if none of the General Schools offered interest you.

16 Exchange Course Approval Process
Step 1 Visit the McGill Course Equivalency System to: View current and past equivalency decisions To submit new requests Step 2 Fill out the Transfer Credit Assessment Form in Minerva with the database approved courses and notify the BCom Office Step 3 BCom Exchange Adviser will approve the course selection in Minerva. The course approval process will then be complete.

17 Exchange Course Approval Process
If you wish to add new courses, steps 1 to 3 must be followed every time Courses approved as equivalent in the database may not be worth 3 McGill credits It is important to have declared the appropriate specialization(s).

18 Transfer Credit Policy
A maximum number of credits from outside McGill may be granted (Exchange, Study Away, IUTs): 12 McGill credits for your major 6 McGill credits for your concentration or minor Exception: IB Concentration 9 McGill credits for management core No limit for elective credits 6 McGill credits of topics courses towards any specialization (includes courses taken at McGill and other institutions)

19 Transfer Credit Policy
Maximum 15 credits per term can be transferred back to McGill Number of host institution’s courses required for 15 McGill credits: Different for each school Depends on their full-time load for the term Examples: 30 ECTS= 15 McGill credits 60 CATS= 15 McGill credits 48 Units= 15 McGill Overload not permitted

20 Important: Cannot select Exchange courses as pass/fail
Ensure you meet your course pre-requisites CPA program: verify course requirements with the specific order Minor courses should be approved by McGill minor adviser  Request to Cancel Exchange Term Form

21 Important: Host school’s acceptance materials will include visa information For visa related issues contact Embassy or Consulate Consult the website/exchange office of host school for: Course offerings Registration Residences Add/drop deadlines (if any)

26 The CaPS Experiential Learning Program (ExL Program)
Students are encouraged to: set goals expectations and learning outcomes, assess and understand the skills they currently have as well as ones they have developed Tools to: clearly articulate this information on paper or in interviews
