Spellings Increased focus on accuracy of spelling

Reading Children require a high level of comprehension skills to be successful We encourage children to read a wide range of literature to develop their understanding and vocabulary Develop use of Reading Journal to include more imaginative, detailed entries

The SATS reading papers require different types of answers: multiple choice, completing a table or find and copy a phrase that means … Some questions, which are worth 2 or 3 marks, require more detailed answers. The children have to justify their opinion and back it up with evidence. We call this PEE ing!

Writing Handwriting needs to be consistent across all books including the Reading Journal All of our writing projects (Highwayman and UP) have cross-curricular themes drawing on a range of topics Home learning projects based on our topics will be sent home and the work will be used to supplement our writing in class
