1 Diane Gonzales Bertrand
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Diane began writing as a young student. While attending UTSA, she gain recognition of her talent when she wrote an essay about Jośe Antonio Navarro. As a teacher, she attended Grad School and began to write novels.

3 Roy Bedichek Grew up in Falls County, Texas and graduated U.T. in He worked as a teacher, a news reporter, a secretary, and Director of UIL. He wrote Adventures with a Texas Naturalist, Karánkaway, The Story of the UIL, and The Sense of Smell. Bedichek M.S. was named after him

5 J. Frank Dobie Born in Live Oak County, Texas in 1888, he graduated Southwestern University and began teaching. After serving in WW I, he began to write articles depicting the southwest life.

6 J. Frank Dobie Wrote the Following Books:
A Vaquero of the Brush County Coronado’s Children Apache Gold and Yaqui Indian The Longhorns Tales of Old Time Texas And many more In Honor of J. Frank Dobie, there is one High School, two Middle Schools, one Elementary, a post office, a museum, and a mall named after him.

7 Walter Prescott Webb Born in Carthage, TX in 1888, Walter Prescott Webb became a teacher after he graduated High School, then attended U.T. where he earned his degree. He wrote The Great Plains and it was declared an outstanding contribution to American History. He also created an encyclopedia of Texas.

10 Scott Joplin Born in Texarkana, Texas in 1868, Scott Joplin became an American Composer and pianist. Leaving his life of a railroad laborer, Scott Joplin moved to Chicago were he learned to play Ragtime music and was soon was labeled “The King of Ragtime” The Entertanier

12 Elisabet Ney Born in Germany, but moved to Texas in 1872, Elisabet Ney was hired to create two sculptures; one of Sam Houston and one of Stephen F. Austin. She also created a memorial for Albert Sidney Johnston and Lady Macbeth.

14 Amado Peña Jr. Amado was born in Laredo, Texas in 1943 and studied art at Texas A&I. He teaches art in Laredo and is an adjunct professor at U.T.

16 Horton Foote Horton Foote was born in Wharton, TX in He decided his acting career wasn’t taking off, so he decided to write screenplays. He wrote for NBC and won an Emmy in He also won a Pulitzer for a play called The Young Man From Atlanta. Foote won an Oscar for adapting To Kill a Mockingbird
