1. Ryan Lochte to be suspended

According to sources, US swimmer Ryan Lochte will be suspended from his sport for 10 months and will not be allowed to participate in the 2017 world championship meet as a result of his involvement in a gas station incident in Rio de Janeiro during the Olympics. A joint announcement on the suspensions by the United States Olympic Committee and US Swimming, the national governing body for the sport, is expected Thursday. The gas-station episode, and Lochte's "exaggerated" description of it later to newscasters, created an international scene and an embarrassment for Olympic officials. Lochte has apologized for poor behavior at the Rio gas station on the morning of August 14.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell told his successor, Hillary Clinton, that he used his own personal computer to communicate with friends and foreign leaders and sent s without going through the State Department server, according to s released Wednesday by congressional Democrats. Clinton's use of a private server during her tenure as secretary of state has loomed over her presidential campaign and spurred intense criticism from Republicans. The exchange between Clinton and Powell was released Wednesday by the State Department after Democrats on the House Oversight Committee pressed for it. They complained the full exchange was not part of earlier document releases from the department that Republicans in Congress have asked for as part of their probe into Clinton's use. Powell didn't yet respond.
The Obama administration made two additional cash payments totaling $1.3 billion, after delivering $400 million to Iran by plane in January, to resolve a failed arms deal. That cash payment was made in January on the same day Iran released four American prisoners and formally implemented the nuclear deal. The money was flown in a plane to Iran on wooden pallets stacked with various currencies to resolve a dispute between the two countries stemming from a failed arms deal made before the Islamic Revolution in 1979 that toppled the Shah.
As expected and in a controversial move, Apple has removed the port from the iPhone 7. Wired headphones, like Apple's own EarPods, will now connect over the Lightning port instead. To help ease the transition, Apple made an adapter that it will include with all iPhone 7 and 7 Pluses. Apple is also introducing AirPods, wireless headphones. The little wireless buds come with a white case for charging, and get up to five hours of listening time per charge. Infrared sensors detect when they're in your ears. The headphones include microphones and one-tap Siri access. The wireless headphones will cost $159 when they come out in late October.
