Choose one quote/passage from Act III of The Crucible. Complete the chart below for that quote/passage. Quote: from Giles Corey “My proof is there! If Jacob hangs for a witch he forfeit up his property—that’s law! And there is none but Putnam with the coin to buy so great a piece. This man is killing his neighbors for his land!” pp. 214 Tone Word: Livid (adj) Extremely angry Context: Corey is trying to prove that Putnam is behind the accusations and the judge is not willing to believe him or to consider proof. Rationale: The use of three exclamation points shows strong emotion directed towards the judge. The diction helps show strong emotion. We can sense he is angry, not excited because he says Putnam’s actions involve “killing” instead of the stealing that is actually happening.
