Teacher Education for 21st Century :
A focus on technology and collaboration to improve the quality of education in the Caribbean

Online Course Aimed at demystifying ICT integration for pre-service teacher educators across the Caribbean. Through active discussion and practical activities participants will learn ways to bring collaborative technology and 21st century teaching and learning into their practice.

Course Objectives Teacher Educators in this course will: Gain an understanding of foundations for 21st Century teaching and learning Experience hands-on integration of ICT and collaborative learning into their teaching practice Recognise the benefits of international collaboration and knowledge sharing Align their practice to UNESCO ICT Competency Standards Develop a portfolio relevant to their future work

Structure Ten weeks guided instruction (2 facilitators) 30 participants per course Asynchronous Active participation & discussion Scaffolding structure (building on learning and skills)

Week 1 Welcome & Introductions Learn how to navigate the online course environment Learning and communication in this course Introductions: meet your facilitators and peers Review course syllabus and expectations Explore the UNESCO ICT competency standards Assess where you currently fall in ICT integration and collaborative project work Week 2 21st Century Teaching & Learning Overview of 21st century learning UNESCO ICT Competency standards: Knowledge Creation Approach Discuss current challenges and obstacles in ICT integration Week 3 ICT Collaborative Project Integration (Part 1) UNESCO ICT Competency standards: Knowledge deepening Introduction to online collaborative learning Curriculum standards and ICT integration

Week 4 & 5 Quality Materials and Resources for Teacher Educators Identify resources, materials and organizations to expand your practice of 21st century collaborative learning Integrating technology into different subjects Modeling of ICT integration Develop a working plan for your student teachers Week 6 ICT Collaborative Project Integration (Part 2) Share initial feedback on your students’ collaborative project integration Managing ICT work in the classroom: benefits & challenges Legal & Ethical Issues Week 7 ICT Collaborative Project Integration (Part 3) UNESCO ICT Competency standards: Technology Literacy Differentiated instruction in the classroom Continued sharing of your teacher educators’ work

Requirements Working knowledge of English Access to the Internet and a Computer Basic computer skills ( , navigating websites, downloading documents) Pre-service teachers you will work with during the course Commitment to complete full ten weeks of instruction
