1 Naviance Night Reflections and Data
CMW Counseling- As Prepared by Mr. Whitfield

2 What was Naviance Night?
Naviance Night was a program created by CMW Counselors and the PTSO to help parents access the FREE and POWERFUL online college process tool called Naviance. The event was run by the PTSO, students, and the CMW counselors. There were sessions offered in 5 distinct content areas within Naviance: 1. Tracking and simplifying the college search 2. Using career assessments to find your dream job 3. Scholarships and Financial Aid: What to do and what to avoid 4. Task Management in Naviance- Resumes, planners, and more 5. Information about you- The “About Me” Tab (Including test scores!) What was Naviance Night?

3 Approximately 40 families attended the first Naviance Night, though more than 65 RSVPed.
The entire PTSO helped sponsor the food and the supervision of the event. 10 Students voluntarily gave up their time to help work with parents during the event, as well (including 2 who were courageous enough to actually run one of the sessions). 4 of the 5 school counselors were there to host and facilitate sessions Many of the families brought their students with them to the event. Who was there?

4 Over the course of 3 hours, families moved between the 5 distinct training rooms in CMW’s business hallway to learn to use all the different parts of Naviance. Parents had time to work one on one with their families, a counselor, PTSO members (who had been previously trained on the system), and our student helpers in order to help them gain skills in each facet of the system. Parents, students, and PTSO were fed delicious snacks as they moved from room to room. What did people do?

5 Why did we host Naviance Night?
Parent and student usage data for our school (though it was stronger than many of the surrounding high schools) was far too weak given that this powerful, free resource is available anywhere and through any means of internet access. Parents frequently ask counselors questions about the system that fall into the buckets that we determined for hosting our sessions. The PTSO, on behalf of our community, thought it would be a great idea and a benefit to parents. This program replaced the college and career fair that the PTSO hosted last year because the HCC College and Career Fair took the place of ours. Why did we host Naviance Night?
