1. American Literature Grab old work from the shelf
Have out your book club book and homework
Sit with your book club group
Designate a recorder to have a chromebook and take notes (THIS CANNOT BE THE DISCUSSION LEADER)
Make a Google Doc for “Book Club Meetings”
Place it in your Am Lit folder and then share with your other group members and allow them “editing” privileges

2. Book Club: Intro Recorder: Write down in your new google doc
At the top of the page, the date
The names of people present in your group today—indicate who were the quote takers and who was the discussion leader
The number of assigned pages/chapters you all should have completed today
In your group, quickly summarize the section you read for today

3. Book Club: Characters
Create a list, together, on your Google Doc of major characters that you have read about so far
Include their names
Their occupations
Their relationship to each other in the novel
Who you believe to be the protagonist and who you believe might be the antagonist
Any descriptive details that you have about them so far

4. Book Club: Quotes
Share your quotes that you found and a brief description of why you chose that particular quote for this first section
Recorder: Write down page numbers/beginning of the quote for your records
After each quote is introduced, the discussion leader needs to take over and stimulate discussion
During this time, the recorder needs to be participating but also taking BRIEF notes on the discussions that take place

5. Book Club: For Next Meeting
Assign new roles (new discussion leader)
You must now find 2-3 quotes and write 1 piece of commentary for each quote in your notebook
Discussion leaders need to write at least 5 text based discussion questions, it can encompass the first two sections of the reading
Check in with each other on how many pages need to be read for the next meeting and make sure you look at how many chapters that is approximately for those with different versions
