DNA Replication Learning Goal 1
2
Base Pairing Rule of base pairing: A always pairs with T
G always pairs with C A T T A G C C G
3
DNA Replication To replicate means to make an exact copy
DNA Replication is how your cells make exact copies of your DNA Your cells cannot make a mistake 1% error would be fatal
4
Review What is the base pairing rule? What does replication mean?
What is DNA replication
5
DNA Replication Before your cells can make copies of your DNA, first they must unravel (unzip) your DNA strand
6
DNA Replication After DNA unzips, the enzyme named DNA polymerase builds 2 new strands and attaches them to the separated old strands DNA polymerase uses the base pairing rule. Each new DNA is ½ old and ½ new (semi-conservative)
7
Review What is the first thing that needs to happen before DNA is copied? What is the enzyme that copies DNA? What rule does the enzyme use? What does semi-conservative mean?
