What happened?
What happened 5 years before the Millenium? In 1995 Mars Company, the makers of M and M introduced the blue M and M. You know the M and M the small chocolate that melts in your mouth and not in your hand. What was all-together different was the way they decided to change. It was a new approach to marketing in which they asked the consumers to decide. Through the new developing media they reached 10 million consumers and over 50% voted for blue. That was a significant new outreach and a radical change for the M and Ms. That was in 1995.

Open content is a developer concept that exists and coined by a guy named David Wiley back in 1998 (in the 3rd year of the Blue M and M) and it deals with web based content. This is exactly what we found ourselves doing with the STEP. Except it was difficult and cumbersome. Questions were not easily available on-line…
