6 Some Case Studies Remote Mobile Fetal Monitoring.
Mobile Robot Challenge. Monitoring Daily Living Activities of Elderly.

7 Remote Mobile Fetal Monitoring
Pregnant women ‘at risk’ need regular monitoring of their baby. Inconvenient in urban settings Impossible in remote settings In remote and rural areas in Australia, the rate of preterm birth in Indigenous community is very poor. Increased access to antenatal care in such communities leads to significantly fewer premature births.

9 Remote Mobile Fetal Monitoring
Successful because of good partnership ECU, Microsoft Research, Mercy Hospital - Mount Lawley, Arjo-Huntleigh Healthcare. Listed by World Health Organization in Compendium of new and Emerging Health Technologies (2011). Technique published by us and subsequently independently commercialised.

10 Mobile Robot Challenge
MAGIC2010 Competition - ECU, together with UWA, Flinders, Thales Australia, and Illiarc.

11 Example Scenario – From DSTO

12 Simulation – Using a Game Engine

13 Came 4th in the Final MAGIC 2010 Competition – DSTO / US DOD. 13 13

14 Monitoring Daily Living Activities of Elderly
Real-time automated monitoring system using the Microsoft Kinect Non-intrusive, and easily retrofitted to existing homes Provides continuous observation data, and emergency detection

15 Monitoring Daily Living Activities of Elderly
A number of Kinect cameras positioned in the house. Features of the occupants silhouette tracked over time to build a model of normal behaviour.

16 Monitoring Daily Living Activities of Elderly
Example: Orientation of the occupant in one location.

17 Monitoring Daily Living Activities of Elderly
Results: Work is continuing Next phase will be to install the system in aged care facilities for larger trials.

18 Thank you
