Introduction Student Page
[Teacher Page] Title This lesson will involve learning about the different ways sports can be adapted for students with special needs. Quality adapted physical education involves meeting the needs of each individual student with differentiated instruction based on the students abilities and interests. The differentiation may involve changing the rules, the environment, or the way the student is assessed. The ultimate goal is to have the students learn and to be successful while having fun at the same time. Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits

[Teacher Page] The class of 8th graders will be divided into three groups. There will be three stations through out the gym. The three stations will be adapted basketball, adapted bowling, and blind baseball. The groups will rotate after participating in each activity for 15 minutes. Station 1: Adapted Basketball The students will be using a smaller and lighter ball to play with along with a lower basketball hoop. This activity will make the kids realize a simple sport may be complicated for one with a disability Before participating look at these links to see how adapted basketball is played: Station 2: Blind Baseball The students will be blindfolded and provided with a beeping ball. They will not be bale to see the ball come they will have to listen for it. This activity will allow them to see what it is like to be blind but still able to participate in a sport. Before participating look at these links to see how blind baseball is played: Station 3: Wheelchair bowling The students will be sitting in a chair with a light ball in front of the lane and pins. The point of this activity is for the students to see what it is like to be in a wheelchair and not be able to stand and bowl. Before participating look at these links to see how bowling is done: After all groups have participated in each activity they will need to write a short reflection on each of the three activities they have done in class comparing the usual way they play compared to the adapted. This will be due the following class. Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits
