Interesting Facts The 2011 graduation rate for full-time, first-time undergraduate students who began their pursuit of a bachelor's degree at a 4-year degree-granting institution in fall 2005 was 59 percent. In 2001 there were 26,407 public high schools and 10,693 private schools in the United States. (Total 37001)

What You Can Do Monitor the gradebook. Generally a grade of Z (Zero) means that the student is behind the class average in submission time or has failed to complete a particular assignment. Submission times vary for different types of assignments. The best source for your child's progress is your child. They should have a good idea of what is involved in a particular assignment and how they are progressing. You will notice that a Z will destroy the current GPA, so the grades may fluctuate wildly, especially at the beginning of a marking period. Grades should stabilize as more grades are entered. Long term Z's are a concern. Students are required to return a Progress Report signed by a parent each Monday that they have my class. That report has 4 parts. 1) The report (10 pts) 2) Parent Signature (50 pts) 3. Z (zero report) 4. Weekly Practice test packets/Journals I ask each student with a grade of C or below, to include a written report on outstanding Z's on the Parent Viewer Report. This is a good place to start the conversation about progress.

What You Can Do Monitor the NOTEBOOK. This is the single most important part of a child's grade that is COMPLETELY within the child's control. While the notebook is large, detailed (and somewhat tedious) task. There is no reason a serious student shouldn't get a 100 on this assignment. (MIT: By Consistent Hard Work) Your child has detailed description of the guidelines for making a notebook.
19
What You Can Do Monitor the Online Work. I get grades from online sites that may include: 1) Moodle 2) WebWork 3)Alcumus 4) Math League and 5) Khan Academy. All these sites are accessible from my website at Students need to keep log-in information in an accessible spot. It is a time consuming task to reset passwords, so a student who consistently loses this information will find themselves at a disadvantage when trying to complete work in a timely manner.

Some Helpful Hints My room is usually open from 6:30 in the morning to several hours after school. During that time, the computers are available for online work, and the room is full of advanced math students who are willing and able to help. There is no hand holding, babysitting or tutoring, but if your child is stuck, this is a good place to start. Within reason ALL assignments are accepted when submitted. NO child should settle for a Zero on any assignment.A late assignment may not receive full credit but the difference in overall grade is significant when all Zeros are completed. The only exception is in the last days before a grading period ends. Students who want A's or B's should never depend on getting work graded during this period. During this period, the gradebook slows to a crawl so grade entry becomes nearly impossible at times. In addition, once the gradebook is officially closed by the office, not grade can be entered.

Parent Volunteer Hours
Parents can bring in supplies from my wish list (attach the original receipt to the bag, along with your child’s name and student ID). Opportunities for parent hours (ex. Field trips, school events). We have a Parent group. Contact Ms. Manning or Ms. Bishop for information.
