ELECTRICITY! SERIES AND PARALLEL CIRCUITS
2
HOW MANY PATHS CAN CURRENT TAKE IN A SERIES CIRCUIT?
3
HOW DOES A SERIES CIRCUIT DIFFER FROM A PARALLEL CIRCUIT?
4
In a series circuit, there is only one path for the current to take
In a series circuit, there is only one path for the current to take. All the parts of series circuit are connected one after another.
5
Series circuits are simple & inexpensive to design but have major disadvantages. - If one bulb burns out, they all go out! - As more bulbs are added, the current decreases & the bulbs get dimmer.
6
When batteries are connected in series their voltages are added together!
7
Parallel circuits provide several paths for current to take.
8
When batteries are joined in parallel, the voltage stays the same.
9
When batteries are joined in series, the voltages are added .
10
Household circuits are parallel circuits.
