Most communication as far as classwork and grades will be sent home with your child in the red “Weekly/Graded Papers Folder”. It will be sent home on Tuesdays with graded work from all subjects. Please review all items, sign work graded below 73% , keep all other papers, and return in the folder with your child. If you have any questions about work or find a grading error, write a note and stick it with the work in question.

Homework Expectations
Organization is a large part of homework. It is the student’s responsibility to get it home, do it well, and bring it back! Student Agendas - Students are responsible for writing down nightly homework assignments and tests from the board. Agendas should be signed each night by an adult. You will see some type of Language Arts homework each night

Grading Grades will be different this year. Students will be graded on a more traditional grading scale. Percentages are given for graded work, which are equivalent to a letter grade that will be placed on the report card. This will be a big transition for students. Grading Scale: = A 80-89 = B 74-79 = C 70-73 = D 69 or below = F

Conferences This year conferences will be held October 16-20th. The goal of conferences is to help celebrate successes and identify areas of need so that your child will have the opportunity to reach his or her potential. I will work with you to find a convenient time for our schedules. *Info from the other teachers that your child sees will be included.

Classroom Management Show Your P.R.I.D.E – House System
King Springs will be continuing a positive behavior plan using the “House System”. Students will be in one of the five houses: Yangxing (positivity), Integridad (integrity), Mahalo (respect), Studium (enthusiasm), or Fidelis (dependable). The House System is vertical meaning that a fifth grader and a first grader can be in the same house. Students can earn points for their house for academics, behavior, athletics, attendance, manners, etc. The points will be tallied and the winning house will be rewarded monthly and quarterly. For more information about the House System, please refer to the KSE website. In addition to the House System, there will also be a school-wide disciplinary system that will document inappropriate behaviors. The inappropriate behavior will be documented on a behavior slip that is aligned directly to the standards-based report card. The behavior slips will be used not only in the classroom, but also in specials, the cafeteria, and other places throughout the building. The amount of behavior slips will determine your child’s conduct grades on the quarterly report card. House Behavior System

Homework (continued) How you can help? Create a routine!
Assist your child with a quiet study location Help your child with organizing & cleaning out folders Make sure that work is returned to school on time & completed Acknowledge your child’s responsibility in understanding assignments & completing work on time 4th graders should spend about 45 minutes a night on homework. If your child finishes homework in less time, he/she could work on math facts read, or read as needed. Is finding Reading time a challenge? As long as your child reads (with or without you) it counts! Bedtime, dessert time, anytime!
